25 years after his first exhibition on the jetty in Sète, and after exhibiting his work all around the world, Johan Creten presents “La Traversée”.

SHOW
"La Traversée / The Crossing"
Centre Régional d’Art Contemporain d'Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée
Sète (France)
2017

The exhibition La Traversée/The Crossing, dedicated to the artist Johan Creten, presents an extensive range of ceramic and bronze sculptures, including some that have never been seen before. The exhibition reflects upon a career that began in Sète. We are taken on a sensitive journey, meeting hybrid creatures, of a wonderful and disturbing nature, who hold profound mysteries. The tragic dimension of La Traversée/The Crossing is reinforced by a message of hope and beauty.

“Traversing means passing a ford and passing time. Whoever crosses does not leave, but passes. Yes, the crossing is an art of passage, like ceramics is an art of transformation and transition. Of mutation. Mutatis mutandis, Johan Creten knows how to magisterially fix the present participle of matter in the process of migration.”

“And, to thus be able to navigate amidst the graves and buryings, the pitfalls and the reefs of the soul, one must certainly take after Neptune and Charon”
